In response to customer feedback, ActivInsights plans to update the Advanced Sleep Toolkit over the weekend of 17 and 18 October 2026.
The update introduces two independent algorithm improvements, alongside faster processing times. These changes are intended to improve the analysis experience while continuing to provide clear sleep measures for researchers and clinicians.

What is changing?
Rest interval detection

Rest interval detection has been adjusted to better identify the boundaries of some rest periods.

Sleep detection

Within rest intervals, the updated sleep-detection threshold will classify more movement events as sleep. This change applies only within rest intervals, not throughout the full day.

Faster processing

Improved service performance will reduce the time required to process files for analysis.

Responding to customer feedback

Customer feedback highlighted wake after sleep onset (WASO) and sleep efficiency as particularly important measures.

In our review of the updated sleep algorithm, WASO decreased and sleep efficiency increased for most nights examined. However, individual results may differ, particularly where an updated rest interval changes the period being measured. The update should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every file or measure will change in the same way.

Important information for ongoing studies

Re-analysing an existing file after the update may produce different results for rest intervals, WASO, sleep efficiency and other linked sleep measures.

If some study files are analysed before the update and others afterwards, the resulting measures may not be directly comparable.

Which Toolkit is affected?

This update applies only to the Advanced Sleep Toolkit. It does not affect the Actigraphy Sleep Toolkit.
