ActivInsights at the 7th Annual Digital Implementation Summit: Advancing the Future of Clinical Research with Digital Measures

ActivInsights is excited to attend the 7th Annual Digital Implementation Summit hosted by Pfizer in Boston. This prestigious event will focus on the value proposition of digital tools across the clinical research ecosystem, including payers, healthcare providers (HCPs), clinical sites, and regulators. With our extensive expertise in the operationalisation of digital measurement tools, we are thrilled to contribute to the discussions.

At ActivInsights, we have played a pivotal role in advancing digital tools for clinical trials. Our technologies have been deployed to over 500,000 participants worldwide, spanning more than 200 clinical trials. A prime example of our work is the Safeheart project, where we successfully implemented remote monitoring technologies in decentralised clinical trials. You can read more about this project here.

The summit’s central theme, From Clinical Trials to Clinical Use: Digital Measures in Clinical Research, aligns closely with our mission to transform how clinical research is conducted and how digital tools can enhance both trial outcomes and patient experiences. Learn more about the event here.

Key Insights from Our CTO and Co-Founder, Joss Langford

Our Chief Technology Officer, Joss Langford, will be sharing his expertise during the event with a presentation on Digital Measure Development, Adoption, and Operationalisation. Joss will delve into the critical factors involved in selecting and implementing the right digital measures tailored to specific populations and research objectives.

Drawing from ActivInsights’ extensive experience, particularly in multi-country studies where we have acted as Principal Investigator, Joss will also share invaluable operational learnings. One of the key themes he will explore is minimising site burden from a device perspective, an essential consideration for ensuring smooth trial execution and participant engagement.

In addition, attendees will get a sneak peek into what’s coming from ActivInsights in 2025, as we continue to innovate and expand our digital measurement solutions to better support the clinical trials sector.

The Three Levels of Digital Measures

At ActivInsights, we recognise that digital measures can serve as clinical outcome measures, biomarkers, or even tools to explore mechanisms of action in clinical trials. The key advantage of digital measures is their objective nature, offering precise data compared to the more subjective traditional measures.

We classify digital measures into three distinct levels of application:

  1. Fine Motor & Movement Characteristics

Example: Nocturnal scratch detection

These measures focus on detecting specific behaviours or movements that may be subtle but highly indicative of a clinical condition.

  1. Activities of Daily Living & Performance

Example: Fast stepping or frailty

These measures capture day-to-day activities and functional performance, providing insight into a patient’s overall health and well-being.

  1. Patterns of Behaviour

Example: Heart failure

These measures track patterns and changes in behaviour over time, helping to monitor disease progression or response to treatment.

Why Digital Measures Matter in Clinical Research

The ability to capture real-time, objective data from patients, anywhere in the world, is transforming clinical research. Digital measures not only provide critical insights into patient health and treatment efficacy, but they also reduce reliance on subjective reporting, increasing the robustness and reliability of clinical outcomes.

We look forward to contributing to the conversations at the summit and furthering the adoption of digital measures in clinical trials. Stay tuned for more updates from ActivInsights as we continue to lead the way in digital health innovation.
